When you’ve had a rough, long day show yourself some love with this delicious, easy individual chocolate cake! It’s baked in the microwave so it can be made in less than 5 minutes and just involves combining a few ingredients. Who knew baking could be so easy…except it took adjusting this recipe 4 times to get it right ha. So can’t guarantee perfection for you since all microwaves are a little different and I made this at altitude, but definitely recommend giving this one a try.
Chocolate Mug Cake
Equipment
- large microwaveable mug
Ingredients
- 2 Tbsp butter melted
- 1 Tbsp sugar
- 3 Tbsp milk
- 1 egg yolk
- 1/4 cup flour
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1 packet caramel hot chocolate mix
- 10 chocolate chips
Instructions
- Melt butter in a mug. Do 15-20 second intervals until melted otherwise it can bubble up too much in the microwave.
- Stir in sugar until all the way combined with the butter. Add the milk, flour, baking powder and cocoa. You’ll want to crack the egg first, separate out the yolk and then whisk the yolk with a fork before adding.
- Stir all the ingredients until all mixed together. Sprinkle chocolate chips over the top of the cake batter and then gently shake the mug until the chips are covered
- Microwave for 75 second.
- Sprinkle with sea salt and enjoy!

Tips:
– I used Carmel Hot Cocoa mix but you can use whatever you have. If you don’t have a hot cocoa packet you can use 1 and 1/2 T cocoa powder.
– For an extra special treat you can top this with ice cream, dust with powder sugar and top with raspberries or add whipped cream on the top.
